On Wednesday December 28th, Cory was admitted to the hospital overnight for high blood pressure. What started with high blood pressure quickly turned to a catheter in his neck and his kidneys working at 9% out of 100%. His spirit was immediately taken from him and everyone else that was surrounding his bedside. The prognoses looked grim, if the dialysis was not a success then he would be forced to start a weekly dialysis schedule of almost 12-15 hours per week until a new kidney was available. He went from being an active 29 year old man, eating whatever he wanted, being healthy and other than his high blood pressure that he regulated daily with medication to an ICU patient with 24 hour hookup to multiple machines with his own nurse. He had a choice. He could surrender to his prognosis and wave the white flag or he could stand up and fight for his life, stay positive and realize that this disease didn't have to define him as a person. Thankfully he chose the latter. Cory is the love of my life. Since the day we met we have been inseparable. We immediately knew that this wasn't lust and on December 28th I gladly stepped up and joined the fight with him and will continue to be his biggest fan and be there to support and provide whatever I need to, in order to make sure he is taken care of and happy. It has been the hardest thing watching him suffer and feel so helpless. I plan to keep this blog for not only my benefit but also his families and anyone who may find themselves in the same situation. A good friend of mine said you have to be an advocate for your own disease and for your future. Now Cory is a little quiet so I will be more than happy to be his voice (when he'll let me) and just inform and educate myself and those around me so that everyone can understand what he is going through and how we can all become stronger together and in our own individual lives.
What better way to start out the new year.
Love Tessa
